The wine that perfumes the blood

The title might hint at a Halloween-inspired evening—and with the holiday around the corner, it’s easy to see why!

But in fact, this unique event organized by AIS Verona—the first of its kind in Italy—took us on a journey to discover the mysterious, captivating wines of the Canary Islands. These volcanic lands and their ancient winds even caught the attention of Shakespeare himself (the title refers to his quote !

The Canary Islands (Tenerife, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura) are a true enological puzzle: located outside the famous “Wine Belt” (30-50°), they lie in a region where vines theoretically shouldn’t thrive. And yet, here they do, thanks to three extraordinary factors:

  • Climate: the Atlantic Ocean regulates the temperatures.
  • Altitude: volcanic peaks create a unique biodiversity.
  • Winds: the Alisios (trade winds) bring constant, refreshing breezes.

I discovered the magic of the “mar de nubes” (sea of clouds), the ancient “el cordon trenzado” vine training technique, and the unique “hoyos” dug to protect the vines.

Sip after sip, we explored an unforgettable tasting experience with wines like:
Blanco Seco, Marmajuelo, Malvasia Aromática, Malvasia Volcánica, Blanco Semidulce, Tinto Listán, Listán Negro… each carrying the volcanic, oceanic signature of the islands.

These wines tell authentic stories in every bottle, where extreme nature and local tradition blend seamlessly.
It was an evening as intense as the colors of these islands.
